The short version
- The app isn't live yet. Today, this website has no accounts, no forms, no cookies and no tracking.
- When the app launches, we'll collect only what's needed to run your English practice — and we'll ask for your consent first.
- Your voice is processed on your phone wherever possible. Practice-drill recordings are deleted after checking; only your progress recordings are kept, privately, for your report.
- No personal data goes to AI providers. We never sell your data or show you targeted ads.
- You can access, correct, export or delete your data, and withdraw consent, at any time.
- Learners of every age are welcome. For anyone under 18, a parent or guardian gives verified consent, and we never track children or show them targeted ads.
1. Who we are
Fluent14 is a product of phpdev.in, an independent software studio in India (“Fluent14”, “we”, “us”). For your personal data, phpdev.in is the Data Fiduciary under the DPDP Act, and a body corporate under the Information Technology Act, 2000 (“IT Act”).
The person who can answer your questions about how we process personal data is our Grievance Officer — grievance@phpdev.in. For privacy requests, write to privacy@fluent14.com.
2. Scope and current status
This policy covers the website fluent14.com and the Fluent14 app (a mobile web app, including any beta or test version).
The Fluent14 app is under development and not yet available. Section 4 describes what applies today. Section 5 onwards explains what the app is designed to collect, so you can decide before you sign up. Before the app launches, we will update this policy with the final details and show you this notice at sign-up.
3. Data processed through this website (today)
| Data | When | Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email address, name and message | Only if you email us — including a “notify me at launch” email | To reply, to send you a single launch email if you asked for one, and to keep a record of your request | Information you provide voluntarily for that purpose (DPDP Act s.7(a)) |
| IP address, browser, date/time, page requested (server logs) | Every visit, kept by our hosting provider | To deliver the website, stop abuse and investigate security incidents | Compliance with law, including CERT-In Directions under s.70B of the IT Act and security duties under s.8(5) of the DPDP Act (s.7(d)) |
| Theme choice (light/dark) | Only if you press the theme button | Remember your display preference | Stored only in your own browser; never sent to us |
The website uses no analytics, no advertising, no cookies and no third-party scripts or fonts. See our Cookie policy.
4. Data the app will process
This is the complete list of personal data the Fluent14 app is designed to process, the specific purpose of each, and the service it makes possible.
| Category | Examples | Purpose | Legal basis |

| Practice data | Your typed and transcribed answers, mistakes, scores, response times, streaks, progress | Give feedback, run your mistake bank and spaced review, estimate your finish date, build your report | Consent (s.6) |

We do not ask for Aadhaar, PAN, financial details, health data or precise location. Please don't enter them in free-text answers.
5. How your voice is handled
- On your phone first. Speech-to-text runs on your device whenever it is fast enough. In that case, your drill audio never leaves your phone.
- Server fallback. If your phone is too slow, the audio is sent over an encrypted connection to our own speech server, turned into text, and deleted immediately afterwards.
- Only progress recordings are kept. Your baseline, Day 7, Day 14 and read-aloud recordings are stored privately so you can replay them in your report. Only you can access them in the app. They are deleted when you delete them or your account.
- No voice profiles. We do not create voiceprints or use your voice to identify you, and we never use it for advertising.
- Sharing is your choice. Your report can be saved as an image. Nothing is shared publicly unless you share it yourself.
6. AI and automated feedback
Answers are checked mainly by our own rule-based engine and open-source tools that run on our servers. If an answer is unclear, we may ask a third-party AI model for a second opinion. When we do, it receives only the practice sentence and your typed or transcribed answer — never your name, email, account ID or voice. Feedback is automated and may sometimes be wrong; you can mark an answer as correct if you disagree. Automated feedback is used only to help you practise, not to make any decision with legal or similar effects on you.
7. Service providers (Data Processors)
We use providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and only on our instructions:
| Provider type | What they do | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud hosting & storage | Run our servers, database, backups and audio storage | All app data, encrypted in transit |
| Google (Google Sign-In) | Sign-in, if you choose it | Name, email, Google account ID |
| Telegram | Sign-in codes, if you choose it | Telegram user ID, sign-in code |
| Email delivery provider | Deliver sign-in codes and account emails | Email address, message content |
| Browser push services (e.g. Google, Apple, Mozilla) | Deliver reminders you switched on | Push token, reminder text |
| AI model provider | Second opinion on unclear answers | Practice sentence and answer text only — no personal data |
Analytics and error tracking run on our own servers, not with third-party analytics companies. We will list provider names here before launch. We may also disclose data when required by Indian law, a court order, or a lawful request from an authorised government agency.
8. What we never do
- Sell, rent or trade your personal data.
- Show you targeted or behavioural ads, or let ad networks track you.
- Send your voice or personal details to AI companies.
- Use your recordings to train third-party AI models.
- Use dark patterns to get your consent or keep you subscribed.
9. How long we keep data
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Account, profile and practice data | Until you delete your account. If your account is inactive for 3 years, we will email you and, if you don't sign in, delete it — giving at least 48 hours' notice. |
| Progress recordings | Until you delete them or your account. |
| Practice-drill audio | Not stored. Deleted right after it is turned into text. |
| Backups | Rolling 14 days, after which deleted data is gone from backups too. |
| Security, sign-in and server logs | At least 180 days and up to 1 year, as required by the CERT-In Directions and the DPDP Rules, 2025. |
| Emails, complaints and requests | Up to 24 months after the matter is closed, or longer if needed for a legal claim. |
| Launch-notification emails | Until we've sent the launch email, then deleted unless you become a user or ask us to keep in touch. |
When you delete your account in the app, your data is erased from our live systems within 24 hours and from backups within 14 days, except what we must keep by law.
10. Consent and withdrawing it
At sign-up we will show you this notice and ask for your clear, separate consent. Optional uses (usage statistics, reminders) will be off unless you switch them on. You can withdraw consent at any time in the app's settings or by emailing privacy@fluent14.com — it will be as easy as giving it. Withdrawing doesn't affect processing already done, but if you withdraw consent for core features, we may not be able to provide the service and will delete your account data on request.
If a Consent Manager registered with the Data Protection Board becomes available for our service, you may also give, manage and withdraw consent through it.
11. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:
- Access a summary of your personal data, how it is processed, and who it has been shared with (s.11).
- Correct, complete, update or erase your personal data (s.12).
- Grievance redressal within the time limits set by law (s.13).
- Nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to (s.14).
In the app you will be able to export your data and delete your account yourself. For anything else, see Your data rights or email privacy@fluent14.com. We will verify your identity and reply within 30 days at most. If you live outside India, you may have similar rights under your local law; contact us at the same address.
Under s.15 of the DPDP Act you also have duties — for example, to give accurate information, not to impersonate anyone, and not to file false or frivolous complaints.
12. Children
Fluent14 is for English learners of every age. Under the DPDP Act, anyone under 18 is a “child”, so for learners under 18 we follow section 9 of the Act and rule 10 of the DPDP Rules, 2025:
- Verifiable parental consent. At sign-up we ask for the learner's age. If the learner is under 18, the account is activated only after a parent or lawful guardian gives consent, and we verify that the person giving consent is an identifiable adult — using details already available to us or through a government-authorised method such as a DigiLocker-based age or identity token.
- Parents stay in control. The parent or guardian can see what is collected, ask for access, correction or deletion, and withdraw consent at any time by writing to privacy@fluent14.com.
- No tracking, no targeted ads. We never track, behaviourally monitor or show targeted advertising to anyone under 18. Optional usage statistics are switched off for these accounts.
- Nothing harmful. We don't process children's data in any way likely to harm their well-being.
- Only what's needed. The same minimal data as any learner (see section 4); progress recordings remain private to the learner's account.
If we find that a child's account was created without verified parental consent, we will pause it and delete its data unless consent is provided. A lawful guardian of a person with a disability can give consent on their behalf in the same way.
13. Security and personal data breaches
We use reasonable security safeguards as required by s.8(5) of the DPDP Act and s.43A of the IT Act, including: encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and of stored recordings; access to personal data limited to people who need it; secure sign-in with short-lived codes and rate limits; logging and monitoring for unauthorised access; regular, encrypted backups; and contracts requiring our providers to protect data.
If a personal data breach happens, we will inform affected users without delay — in plain language, explaining what happened, the likely consequences, what we are doing and what you can do — and report it to the Data Protection Board of India and CERT-In within the time limits set by law.
14. Transfers outside India
Some providers (for example, sign-in, email or push services) may process data on servers outside India. Such transfers are permitted under s.16 of the DPDP Act except to countries restricted by the Government of India; we will not transfer personal data to any restricted country.
15. Grievances
Contact our Grievance Officer at grievance@phpdev.in. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours on working days and aim to resolve them within 15 days, always within the time limits set by law. See Contact. If you're not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India after using our grievance process (s.13(3) of the DPDP Act).
16. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy before the app launches and whenever our practices change. For significant changes affecting app users, we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect and, where needed, ask for your consent again. You can ask for this notice in Hindi or any other language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
